Lucy van Oldenbarneveld
Public Affairs Counsellor
Born and raised in Hamilton, Ont., Lucy is one of Canada’s most popular and respected media figures. She brings a wide range of domestic and global experience on politics and community relations to our team.
Lucy is an award winning journalist, covering the day’s news and anchoring many breaking news programs locally and nationally. She spent more than 20 years at CBC as both a radio host and television anchor. She is a sought after moderator and emcee and brings authenticity, knowledge and humour to countless events.
Between 2006 to 2021, Lucy filled various roles at the network, including anchoring CBC News’ leading Ottawa at Six supper hour news program and regularly filling in as host for the national morning show Newsworld Morning.
As a journalist for Deutsche Welle World Service Radio from 2001 to 2003 Lucy covered European politics in a post 9/11 world. Before that, she was a CBC radio host and producer in Whitehorse, Yukon.
She has done policy work in the North and worked in a constit office federally.
She has shared her expertise providing training for radio journalists in Nigeria, Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda.
Lucy collaborates with Compass Rose as a public affairs counsellor on projects.
She has a Bachelor of Arts in political studies from Queen’s University.
