Veteran political staffer Tisha Ashton joins top team of Compass Rose public affairs counsellors

Ashton contributes to significant bench strength with deep knowledge of regulatory environment, parliamentary strategy, and expertise in transportation, health and telecommunications policies to help Compass Rose clients

Compass Rose is adding significant bench strength to its team of public affairs counsellors with the addition of Tisha Ashton — a veteran political staffer with more than 15 years of experience working with federal decision-makers at the highest levels.

Ashton’s unmatched insight in parliamentary procedure, government decision-making, issues management, communications, and stakeholder relations will be a major asset to clients as they navigate the post-pandemic policy environment.

“Few people know as much about how Parliament really works and how to get things done in Ottawa as Tisha,” said Compass Rose Founder and Principal Jacqueline LaRocque. “Our entire team will benefit from her unique understanding and perspective when it comes to breaking the logjam that clients often run up against trying to advance their regulatory and policy priorities in Ottawa.”

Ashton’s first-hand experience in senior government roles gave her a front-row seat to the budgetary process, procurement and project management, cabinet approvals, and parliamentary strategy. She has worked closely on regulatory matters across a range of sectors, including health, transportation and telecommunications. Knowing how to take stakeholders’ innovative ideas and help them advocate for building the best policy or programs is what she does best.

“I’m proud to be joining such a talented team,” Ashton said. “The opportunity to work with clients in the pursuit of the common good is a natural extension of my career helping to make a difference in politics and government.”

She most recently worked as a senior adviser and director of parliamentary affairs to Innovation Ministers Navdeep Bains and François-Philippe Champagne. Previously, Ashton held a number of senior positions in the office of former cabinet minister Scott Brison, including director of policy and acting chief of staff for the president of the Treasury Board, policy advisor to the finance critic in the official opposition, and procurement advisor at Public Works and Government Services.

“With Tisha joining our amazing roster, together we will help even more clients demystify the political and public service worlds, as well as the parliamentary process. She will help us find creative solutions to pressing issues as we hopefully emerge from one of the most challenging public policy periods of our time,” said LaRocque. “In addition to her creative problem solving solutions, Tisha is one of the kindest and most hard working people I know. I’m proud to not only call her a colleague, but also a friend.”

Compass Rose is a fully bilingual public affairs agency dedicated to helping our clients find the common good for all Canadians. We offer unmatched services in federal and provincial government relations, parliamentary media monitoring, strategic communications and analysis, writing, media relations, perception audits, and design. Ashton joins our team at a time when the firm is also expanding its crisis communications mandate.
