Compass Rose bolsters leading public affairs team in Ottawa

Clients will benefit from Andrea Sarkic’s extensive background in solving complex public policy issues in highly regulated sectors as Canada looks to a greener future

OTTAWA —  Compass Rose’s top-tier public affairs team is growing again with the addition of Andrea Sarkic — an experienced and driven strategist with a coast-to-coast perspective drawn from over a decade of experience in public affairs, politics and strategic communication across North America.

Andrea brings a strong understanding of complex and highly regulated sectors, such as natural resources, agriculture, transportation, and labour. She has represented Fortune-500, public and private sector companies, and industry associations in Ottawa and across levels of government coast-to-coast — and the northeastern U.S.

“Andrea has acquired a strong understanding of reputation and issues management at the federal and provincial levels,” said Jacquie LaRocque, Compass Rose founder and principal. “Her ability to relate to diverse audiences and to incorporate competing viewpoints will serve both Compass Rose and our clients well in our joint pursuit of the common good for Canadians.”

Andrea’s experience includes navigating environmental, social, and governance considerations for a multi-billion dollar natural resources capital project with an Indigenous and blue-chip partner on the west coast. Most recently, Andrea worked in the downstream oil and gas sector with a cross-functional team, managing North American government relations for a private international refining and marketing company.

Federally, Andrea served as a member’s assistant, communications adviser and strategic policy adviser to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration and to Lisa Raitt as the former ministers of Natural Resources, Labour and Transportation. Her prior experience in a Conservative minority government gave her the ability to work across party lines in a way that builds consensus and finds solutions.

Andrea’s first task at Compass Rose was playing a leadership role in getting the 2021 proprietary Out Front election project up and running. Andrea and the Out Front team have continued helping our clients navigate the #elxn44 campaign, allowing the entire company — and our clients — to hit the ground running once a new parliament is in place.

“Andrea’s varied background and experience from British Columbia to New Brunswick has given her a unique understanding and vantage point on public policy in Canada that will be instrumental for Compass Rose clients, particularly as Canada moves towards a greener future,” said LaRocque. “The first to jump into a lively debate, Andrea’s sharp wit, inquisitive mind and sense of humour has made her an obvious addition to our distinguished team of public affairs counsellors.”
